PREPARATION

GREETINGS AND CONCERNS

CALL TO WORSHIP

One:     You O God, know our hearts.

All:   Guide our hearts O God.

One: You, O God, see our ways.

All:  Shape  our ways, O God.

One:    You, O God, call our spirits.

All:   Call us now, O God, as we call on you.

One: Let us come before God with great humility, confessing our sins and shortcomings.

Moment  of Silent Confession…

Minister:  Happy are we, holy people, when we walk in the ways of our God. Happy are we, beloved ones, as we receive God’s forgiveness.

One:  Happy are we, God’s own, because we are made whole, through Jesus Christ our Savior  and Friend.  Amen.

OPENING HYMN:

“Open My Eyes, That I May See”  (TH381)

Open my eyes that I may see,

Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;

Place in my hands the wonderful key,

That shall unclasp and set me free.

Chorus:

Silently now I wait for Thee,

Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit Divine!

Open my ears that I may hear

Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;

And while the wave notes fall on my ear,

Everything false will disappear.

Open my mouth and let me bear

Tidings of mercy everywhere;

Open my heart and let me prepare

Love with Thy children thus to share.

Open my mind that I may read

More of Thy love in word and deed;

What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead?

Only for light from Thee I plead.

INVOCATION:

Creating, Calling and Faithful God, we come to this time and place to be with you ,

 to worship you, and to learn from you.

May our time together be like your creation of light in the darkness that you called good.

May it be that you would call us good while we respond to your call and as we listen to you.

Be with us O God and embrace us with your Presence.  In the name of Jesus, we pray.  Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

Response:      “I Need Thee Every Hour”

                                         (th426)

I need thee every hour most gracious Lord.

No tenderness like Thine can peace afford

I need Thee, O I need Thee, ev’ry hour

I need Thee! O bless me now my Savior, I come to Thee.

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 13:1-9

MESSAGE:  “Extravagant Sower”

CALL TO OFFERING:

God calls us to live faithfully, and to invest our lives in the service of hope;  God calls us to attend to the needs around us, and to be generous in the service of compassion.  In response to all the ways in which God has blessed our lives and continue to offer the promise of life in communion with God, let us now give thanks through the presentation of our tithes and offerings.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Invitation

Hymn: “Break Thou the Bread of Life”

Break Thou the Bread of Life, Dear Lord, to me,

As Thou didst break the loaves, Beside the sea;

Beyond the sacred page, I seek Thee, Lord;

My spirit pants for Thee, O Living Word.

Thou art the Bread of Life, O Lord, to me,

Thy holy Word the truth, That saveth me;

Give me to eat and live, With Thee above;

Teach me to love Thy truth, For Thou art Love.

Consecration of Elements

Words of Institution

Sharing of the Bread and Cup

Prayer of Thanksgiving

CLOSING HYMN: “Amazing Grace”

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch; like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed!

The Lord hath promised good to me,

His word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise

Than when we first begun.

BENEDICTION: (Minister)

May the grace of God empower us to live by faith, to walk in hope and to be restored in love, until the whole world reflects the glory and majesty of God, now and forever more.  In the name of God our Creator, the Son our Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.   Amen.
