CALL TO WORSHIP

(Based on Acts 2:1-6, The Message)

Leader:     “When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building.”

Response: “Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages

as the Spirit prompted them.”

Leader:      Like a wildfire, we proclaim the Holy Spirit is with us at this moment.

All:            We praise God for the Holy Spirit which fills us at this moment.

OPENING HYMN

“Come Holy Spirit We Need You”

Come Holy Spirit, I need you

Come sweet Spirit, I pray

Come in your strength and your power

Come in your own gentle way

Come as a rest to the weary

Come as a balm to the sore

Come Lord as strength to my weakness

Fill me with joy evermore

Come Holy Spirit, I need you

Come sweet Spirit, I pray

Come in your strength and your power

Come in your own gentle way

INVOCATION

Let us pray:

Dear Creator of heaven and earth  be with us as we worship and  praise your name.

Be with us as we gather as a community of God, asking that the Holy Spirit

to descend on us  as it did in that upper room of our ancestor so many years ago.

The Holy Spirit which sustains us each and every day in the Name of Jesus.    Amen

WORDS OF CONFESSION & PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

We humbly come before you  authentically and fully as your children, including all that has separated us from you and each other.

We asked for  healing & forgiveness  for the ways in which we fall short.

SILENT CONFESSION

Assurance of Pardon

Minister:   Forgiveness is your balm for us when we fail you. Thank you, God of the wind and flame,  for sharing yourself with us in the blood of the lamb, the fire of the ascension and the smoke of the Holy Spirit.

Response:  Thank you for the assurance of forgiveness  as we resolve to do better

as a family of God  with you and with one another. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Passing of the Peace

Leader:    Peace be with you.

Response: And also with you

UCCP STATEMENT OF FAITH  (Unison)

WE BELIEVE

In one God: Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, who provides order, purpose, meaning and fulfillment to all creation. That in Jesus Christ, who has born of Mary, God become human and is Sovereign Lord of life and history. That in the Holy Spirit, God is present in the world, empowering and guiding believers to understand and live out their faith in Jesus Christ.

WE BELIEVE

Persons are created in the image of God and destined to live in community with God, with other persons and with all creation. That by disobedience, they have become sinful, but, by grace through faith, they are redeemed in Jesus Christ. That being entrusted with God’s creation, they are called to participate in the establishment of a just and compassionate social order.

WE BELIEVE

That the Church is the one Body of Christ, the whole community of persons reconciled to God through Jesus Christ and entrusted with God’s ministry.

WE BELIEVE

That the Holy Bible is a faithful and inspired witness of God’s self-revelation in Jesus Christ and in history to illumine, guide, correct and edify believers in their faith and witness.

WE BELIEVE

That God is at work to make each person a new being in Christ and the whole world God’s Kingdom in which love, justice and peace prevail. The Kingdom of God is present where faith in Jesus Christ is shared, where healing is given to the sick, where food is given to the hungry, where light is given to the blind, and where liberty is given to the captive and oppressed.

WE BELIEVE

That the resurrection of Jesus Christ has overcome the power of death, gives assurance of life after death, and we look forward to His coming again in all fullness and glory to make all creation new and to gather all the faithful under God’s Kingdom. Amen.

CALL TO OFFERING:

God tells us over and over in the Bible not to be afraid.  Our gifts this morning are one way

that we trust God even in a world that keeps telling us to be afraid.  We let go of thinking that we are on our own, and live each day in graceful dependence on God. Let us gather our gifts together and offer them to God in gratitude and praise.

OFFERING OF TITHES ,PLEDGES AND OTHER OFFERING

DEDICATION:

With these our earthly treasures, We bless the Great God. We sing praises to your name, O Spirit. O Holy Fire of Love and Glory,

You who touch the mountains and they smoke,

We honor you all the days of our lives.

Lord as you have given yourself away to make us holy, We are blessed by giving ourselves away to you.  Amen.

CLOSING HYMN:

Hover o’er me, Holy Spirit,

Bathe my trembling heart and brow;

Fill me with Thy hallowed presence,

Come, oh, come and fill me now.

Refrain:

Fill me now, fill me now,

Holy Spirit, fill me now;

Fill me with Thy hallowed presence,

Come, oh, come, and fill me now.

Thou canst fill me, gracious Spirit,

Though I cannot tell Thee how;

But I need Thee, greatly need Thee,

Come, oh, come and fill me now. [Refrain]

I am weakness, full of weakness,

At Thy sacred feet I bow;

Blest, divine, eternal Spirit,

Fill with pow’r, and fill me now. [Refrain]

Cleanse and comfort, wholly save me,

Bathe, oh, bathe my heart and brow;

Thou dost sanctify and seal me,

Thou art sweetly filling now. [Refrain]
